What an Amazing Start to the 2026-27 School Year! We are so grateful to share what an incredible beginning we've had at Taft! Before students even walked through the door, our entire staff was busy preparing classrooms, setting up routines, and getting ready to welcome our students. The first few weeks of school are always demanding, but our teachers, main office staff, facilities team, and everyone working behind the scenes handled it beautifully while managing construction happening all around us.
On top of everything else, our staff also pulled off four incredible open houses: Countdown to Kindergarten, Kindergarten Open House, Preschool Open House, and our 1st-3rd Open House. Their collective effort and dedication shone through in every event.
We want to give a heartfelt thank you to our entire Taft team - our teachers, ABA and para-educator staff, main office staff, facilities crew, and everyone else who works to make our school run smoothly. Your care, flexibility, and skill during these first weeks have made all the difference. Your children are happy, engaged, and learning because of the amazing educators and staff we have at Taft. The energy and positivity in our building is a direct result of the work our entire team is doing every single day. Â We also want to thank our families for your partnership, your patience as we navigate construction, and your presence at our open houses. Together, we're off to a fantastic start to the school year.

September 11th - Remembering with Our Community
On September 11th, our schools honored the day alongside our community as Uxbridge held a 25th anniversary remembrance ceremony. While Taft, Whitin Intermediate, and Uxbridge High School held age-appropriate morning announcements, the town gathered on the Town Common for a remembrance ceremony beginning at 8:30 AM.
During our morning announcements at Taft, we shared this message with our students:
"Today is a special day to remember. Twenty-five years ago, something very sad happened in our country. But today we remember the helpers — the firefighters, police officers, and everyday people who were brave and kind and took care of each other."
As our students observed a moment of silence, the town held simultaneous ceremonies on the common with bell ringings at 8:46 AM and 9:03 AM. The town ceremony included remarks from community leaders, tributes from our police and fire departments, songs, and prayers.
This shared community remembrance reminded us all of the importance of kindness, courage, and helping one another — values we carry with us every day at Taft.  We are grateful to our town leaders, first responders, and everyone who came together to honor those we lost and celebrate the helpers who showed us the best of humanity.___________________
Reminder: UPD Training Drills at McCloskey
Just a quick reminder that the Uxbridge Police Department will be conducting officer training drills at the McCloskey building on September 15th, 17th, and 23rd. You may notice an increased police presence near McCloskey during drop-off and pick-up on these dates.
These trainings will notaffect student drop-off, pick-up, or normal operations at Taft. Please reach out to the Main Office with any questions.___________________

We're excited to introduce a new section of the Taft Times: the Tiger Family Hub!  The Hub is a quick-reference guide that parents can use to always access important school information and links in one place. From calendars and schedules to arrival & dismissal info and family resources, everything you need is just a click away.  This is pictured here, but will always be found in every Taft Times after the news section.  If you have suggestions for links to be included in the Tiger Family Hub, please let us know.

Taft School Council – Interested Members Needed
We're reaching out to Taft families who may be interested in joining the Taft School Council. The Council is an advisory group that assists administration by:
- Developing and reviewing results of the School Improvement Plan
- Offering budgetary suggestions
- Providing other recommendations per state guidance
Meeting time: Second Tuesday of the month, 3:30–4:30 PM
Any interested parents/guardians are welcome to join, but members must commit to attending the meetings. If you're interested in serving this year, please fill out the form attached to the bottom of this Parent Square post to let us know. Â More info to follow.

Early Dismissal Cutoff Time
Parents wishing to dismiss their child early must inform the office and pick up their child before 2:15 PM. Dismissal changes and early dismissals will not be permitted after this time.
Our Main Office must notify teachers of all dismissal changes by 2:30 PM, which is why the 2:15 PM deadline is necessary. With 540 young students in our building, safely coordinating dismissal changes takes time, and this cutoff ensures every teacher and student is prepared. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Taft is always looking for substitutes, and we have an urgent need for RNs to join our substitute nurse pool.  We're also seeking substitute teachers and para-educators.
